Things have been super crazy here. Work is nuts, (as usual when it gets cold), its half-term break from school for Mr. Tooter and I had an unexpected (but super cool) visitor come stay with us from back home. Which brings me to a very important “fact” about me……I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned, but I am Canadian! (now living in Ireland)
I’ve not seen this friend for 8 years and it’s been so great to catch up on life for the last few days. Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to take any time off work but hubbers has kicked in and is entertaining until I get home. *Love him*
Since her visit was very unexpected and last minute, we had a lot of “project finishing” to do before her arrival. About a month ago, we decided to strip the downstairs bathroom (aka Theo’s bathroom) and re-do it. So much has come up time-wise and financially in the last month that we hadn’t had the opportunity to finish the project. Well, it’s amazing what you can accomplish when you know you’re having company for a week!!
So here’s how it went down…Got the call that she was coming on Thursday; this is how the bathroom looked:
Gross right? We stopped using the bathroom after we stripped it and left it sitting for a month. *slap on the wrist*
So, the first thing we needed to do was clean all of the damp and dirt. Yuck…..Makes me miss home (and timber framed houses sooooooooo much) the damp here is gross. But really, what do you expect from a country where it rains ALL the time!!?!
Once the bathroom was cleaned up, we used damp-proof paint and redid the ceiling and all of the trim *hurray for prevention*. Textured, paintable wallpaper was then put up to hide all of the imperfections on the walls and then painted again with a light colour, damp-proof paint. It was called “Waterfall”. I think it looks great!!
Hang on….Did I mention that we go to this point by Saturday night??? GO US!!! We were tired but managed to do the majority in a few days.
Last but not least, we wanted to make this bathroom a real kid-friendly, cool looking space. Considering it was Theo’s bathroom, it made sense! Theo and I went to Ikea a while ago and got these cool stickers SLATTHULT.
We all know that he’s a video game nut, so you can imagine his reaction when he saw these!! As the bathroom wall colour was very pale, I thought I could bring in all of the vibrant colours with the accessories.
We picked a ton of the cheapy little brightly coloured frames from Ikea and some bright coloured towels and set off for home.
This is what we ended up with, my gorgeous little man and I;
I took one of the left over square mirrors from my mirror makeover (see Ikea hacks link) and added some stickers. The whole thing came together quite nicely and Theo was ecstatic with the final product!! We need to touch up on a few spots once the guests leave, but I really like the look of it and considering the time it took to complete it, I think it look fab!
