WHAT WOULD YOU DO WEDNESDAY # 1

Hi everyone! This will mark my first ever post for my new feature "What Would You Do Wednesday"!

Basically what it means is that I'm going to pick your ever-so-talented brains for ideas!!

Here's the deal:

I'll post some pics of something I've been given or have laying around the house that I've deliberately kept 'cause "I can do something with that".....You know you do it too! (Except I've got a collection of things that I've held on to that, to be honest, I have no idea what I CAN do with it) This is where you beautiful people come in! I need ideas, suggestions, even something as simple as a link to someone else who's done something similar....anything. I appreciate any time of yours that you'll give me in my quest to turn my stash into actual creations! I'll link this post to all linky parties for Wednesday and Thursday. Hopefully, you guys will have some wicked ideas for my "stuff" and we can help each other out :-) Yay for helping!

So, here is my first ever, official WHAT WOULD YOU DO WEDNESDAY item:

I love my job.....the other day I came in to work and sitting on my desk were these swatches. They were straw bag swatches given to us by a supplier. My boss had no further use for them, so she gave them to me. "You can use these for crafting, right Helen?"......You bet your butt I can!! *although I don't know what to do with them*

So, they're all about the size of a large floor tile, all woven paper straw, all have a soft backing and all have a shine to them.

What would you do with them?

Let me know peeps....I'm at a total loss here!!

Thanks x

  1. There are so many things you could do. You could make small boxes out of them of you could cover a box with them. You could frame them. I can't wait to see what you do. Thanks for sharing at DIYByDesign.

  2. The first thought that comes to mind would be to cover a table top with them. You would have to glue them down and perhaps use firring strips (sp?) at the seams that could be painted or stained to coordinate. Around the outside of the table/dresser you could put molding to finish it off. Of course, this would only be a good idea on a table that needs a makeover. You could also frame them and put them on a wall as wall art. You could tape them together on the back with duct tape and use them as a 'rug' in a low traffic area. You could use them as a backing for a hutch or cabinet that is visible, or just simply use them as drawer and/or cabinet liners.

btw, I love this idea of yours! I wish I had thought of it!! LOL ;)

  3. They are so beautiful! I love the metallic. You can put them under a glass frame to use as a writing board (with white board markers) You could enamel them onto tiles for coasters. Cut them up and glue them to cardstock for cards or stationery....

  7. Those swatches have some great patterns on them! Are they very flexible/sewable? You could turn them into little pouches/envelope-like pouches to use for small presents (gift cards, jewellery, etc)? If you google image search 'envelop pouch' there's lots of ideas :)

Otherwise those swatches could be great for covering things such as reuseable coffee/pringles tubs, to make them look classy and expensive :)

  8. Frames came to mind for me, too. I was thinking you could use them as the back matting with a photo or print in the center. (Sorry.. I don't know the correct terms... hopefully you know what I mean. lol)

You could also use them to cover small plastic bins that will sit on a shelf, vanity, or desk and hold small things.

  11. I was thinking you could wallpaper one small wall with them, maybe in a closet, or the back of a bookshelf. You see it all the time with wallpaper swatches. It makes a great wallpaper quilt effect. I've got TONNES of stuff I've been keeping around to 'make something with' too!

  12. Could you stitch one to each side of a tote bag? Attach to a piece of cork for a bulletin board? Glue to the sides of an open craft storage bin (You could make one out of a cardboard box. By the time you glued these to the sides of the box, it would be pretty sturdy.)? Cover a headboard on a bed? Make a room divider screen - or cover one with them? Cover a closet door?
