This seems to be the time of year for us where birthdays come thick and fast. Mr. Tooter is invited to many a birthday party in the autumn. There must have been some serious lovin' going on in December and January...if you catch my drift....
All of these parties reminded me of Theo's last birthday party. As you can probably tell by the reoccurring theme to my posts, he's slightly Mario obsessed! I decided that the look of the store bought Mario party stuff wasn't what I was after.....I decided to tackle it myself.
Lets start with the invites:
Then was the time consuming task of cutting all of the parts and glueing them together. So it took a week of evening / nights to complete!?? They're worth it, no? Aren't they cute??
Every bit of the face is a separate piece so there is a lot of detail here. The sideburns, eye colour, pupils, eyebrows, peak, white circle, the M etc. I think it makes it special that way and it gives it dimension.
Okay so whats next?? Cake, right? Luckily for Mr. Tooter he's got an Auntie who loves to bake, so she offered to make the cake. Which left me free to try out a pinterest pin I'd been eyeing for a while:
|1 Up and Big Mushroom cupcakes!|
Made from plain yellow cake (that ps: I made from scratch - yay me) with buttercream frosting. Some tinted red and green with little white chocolate buttons for the spots. The eyes were done with a cake writing gel pen.
And then to crown it off, Auntie Sarah's Cake:
I hope that you're not overwhelmed with the amount of work this may look like???? Seriously, let me break it down for you. I am a full time working mom. I'm not even home from work until 6 and then its homework recap, dinner making, shower-time and bed time stories. By the time I have ME time, its past 9.....And despite all of that, I STILL had time to do this. You can too. Just space it out....If the party is planned for October, start the invites now. Print off the Mario heads and cut them out at your LEISURE, not rushed at the last minute. You can do it!! I have faith in you!
Give it a go. I cannot tell you how many "Super Awesome Momma Points" you'll score!! Its epic.....
Side note: to all of the wonderful fellow bloggers who's Linky parties I've linked up to in the past week: Please know that I have no "tech skills" whatsoever BUT hubby does and he has asked me to paste all of the HTML code into a document and he PROMISES that he'll sort it out and make it all pretty on the Linky Party page at the top of the blog. Sorry for the delay *love* xx
